Let’s explore Webb Transit Tracking

What is transit tracking?

A tracking system is a solution designed to monitor the movement of goods through various stages of transit, from origin to destination. The system typically employs GPS (Global Positioning System) to track the location, status, and condition of shipments in real-time. The system enhances efficiency, transparency, and security in the movement of goods, enabling more reliable trade operations while minimising risks and delays. RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technology is also available to confirm checks at key locations arrival and at destination.

How does it work?

Webb Transit Tracking is interfaced with the Customs Management System, so no data entry is required at all. The process begins with the declarant submitting a transit declaration, which is approved by customs. The declarant then generates an Electronic Tracking Note (ETN) per truck/vehicle in transit via the Webb Transit online module. All relevant data is imported from the transit declaration.

At the departure site, a customs officer uses Webb Transit Tracking's mobile version to assign a GPS tracker to each ETN and affixes the GPS tracker to the truck/vehicle. The GPS tracker is automatically associated to the designated corridor on the geolocation platform. At a centralised control room, customs officers monitor trucks/vehicles in transit for irregularities and intervene in case of alert notifications.

With GPS trackers replacing physical customs escorts, vehicles in transit can immediately start their journey, with the trackers transmitting their location, speed, direction and status every 60 seconds.

Once at destination, a customs officer conducts an inspection and disarms the GPS tracker. The journey's conformity is assessed, and if compliant, a tracking conform report is transmitted for the release of the transit guarantee - any discrepancies trigger a customs dispute. Post-usage, GPS trackers are sent back to departure sites for reuse.
