Digitalization of Trade: The Port Community System Launches in Guinea

Webb Fontaine has launched the Port Community System (PCS) in Guinea, a groundbreaking tool for modernizing and digitalizing trade through the single window for foreign trade (GUCEG).

During an official ceremony held on Wednesday, November 27, Guinea's Ministry of the Budget presented the Port Community System (PCS), a tool for modernizing and digitalizing trade. The ceremony was chaired by the Minister of the Budget.

According to port experts, the PCS serves as a single entry point for all formalities required for the clearance of goods. It also ensures a standardized exchange of data between the systems of actors in the logistics chain. In multimodal transport, it covers all modes, including maritime, land, and air transport.

For the Minister of the Budget, Facinet Sylla, the introduction of the PCS at the single window for foreign trade in Guinea (CUCEG) marks an important step towards the modernization of foreign trade. Its implementation will facilitate the efficient management of goods and vessel movements.

“It provides real-time visibility into port, airport, and land activities. It optimizes resource allocation and enhances coordination between port authorities, customs, and stakeholders. This results in a significant reduction in lead times and an improvement in port productivity” he said.

The minister further emphasized that this system will enable "the rapid availability of goods, which will, therefore, impact the cost of living," he added.

Meanwhile, the Director General of Webb Fontaine, Mamadou Diané, highlighted that the complete operationalization of the PCS is "a clear expression of their shared vision for securing the business climate in Guinea."
